This is town in the eastern part of Bohol 103.3 kilometers from the city of Tagbilaran.
This toown used to be the village of Butuan. The Spaniards called this town such a name after finding out that most of the trees growing in the community,espicially those that grew along the brooks, were known to be "Butuan Trees" with their delecious fruits.
The town of Butuan was established after the Dagohoy rebelion in 1829 and existed until 1898 under the Spanish regine. It existed during the American ooccupation from 1899 - 1903.
In 1904 the town of Butuan was converted into a barrio and become a part of the town of mbini for fortysix years. Then in 19, itwas restored to its former status as a regular municipality. The name was changed to Alicia in honor of the wife of the late President Elpidio Quirino, who issued the executive order re - creating the municipality
